• Our Camping Trip, Continued

It's been 2 weeks since my last post. A lot has happened since then. While in Michigan,
we stayed at a KOA in Holly, MI. Not a happy experience. On the day of the wedding,
the power went out in the campground. There was no backup generator for the well-
water supply, so the bathrooms had to be shut down. Consequently, my daughter and
her husband who were staying with us never got to shower before the event.

Because it was hot out, the outdoor pool was filled. Imagine being in a crowded pool
    with no filter running :(

We are now in another KOA campground located in Wapakoneta, OH. What a surprising
difference. They really cater to their customers. A welcome difference!

There is a lot to see in this area of Ohio. Today we visited a Catholic shrine, probably
the largest collection of religious relics I have ever seen. Tomorrow we will visit the
Armstrong Space Museum. Really looking forward to it.

We wanted to visit the Airstream Coach factory, but they are closed to visitors for now.
There is still a lot of other attractions to see however.

Love to travel and see the sites!

Sorry to hear about the wedding day issue. I hope that everyone was able to make the best of it and that it was a memorable day in a good way too. They will have a story to tell at least.

I enjoy reading about your trip, please continue to share.

After leaving Michigan we stayed in Wapakoneta, OH and spent 4 days visiting some
great museums. Great place to visit!

All the way home, my wife and I were contemplating selling the coach to a dealer and
getting out of camping all together. Motorhomes are in great demand, and we figured
we could benefit from that by getting more today than we could have last December.
But, we enjoyed this trip so much we decided to keep it.

We have owned it for 5 years, and in order to 'justify' owning it, we figure we have to
use it at least once per month. So, the journey continues...

You probably already mentioned this, but I don't recall. What size RV is it? It's really difficult for me to get time off so anything like that would really be a waste for me. It sounds like you're having a good time. What range area do you travel in it?

We own a 43' Itasca Meridian. The Itasca was a division of Winnebago, so it is a
    Winnebago product.

To 'justify' owning an RV, you have to use it at least one weekend a month or it is just a
waste of money. We weren't doing that until our last trip. Now, we have plans to go to
Branson sometime in October. We also want to see Wetumpka, Alabama after watching
it featured on an HGTV show.

It is nice to have the freedom that retirement gives you so you can get away. For us, it
is by far the best way to "see the country". You are not limited to any specific area.

Have you ever taken it up through Canada into the Canadian Rockies? I've seen some TV shows about the train trip up that way and always dreamed of doing that, it looks like an amazing area.

Where is your favorite place to go currently? Where have you been the most times?

I'm glad you take an interest. Maybe I should pick you up on my next trip North and
    take you with us :)

Being from Michigan originally, we go back there every year. One year we did the entire
U.P., then headed to 3 spots in Ontario, but never to the Rockies.

We have been to Albuquerque twice to see the balloon fest. Always a great place! We
stay sometimes at Disney's campground (hard to get into and very pricy). But once you
are there, no need to use your vehicle to get around, and so much to see.

We've been to Branson, MO once and do plan to do it again. My daughter lives in
northern Georgia so that is a worthwhile trip. In Georgia, Stone Mountain is always a
    great stop!

We loved Wapakoneta, OH for the space museums.

There is a lot more. Perhaps you should tell me where you want to go and I will pick
    you up:)

Are there any issues with taking the RV up into Canada as far as license, insurance, etc?

Big cities are interesting, but I like seeing just average places and what
they have to offer. It's neat to look at the houses and stores, restaurants, employers and think about what it would be like to visit or live there, etc.

Do you log everywhere you go? I've seen some people do the old push pin a
map deal while others have detailed records of where they've stayed, etc.

You don't need a special license or insurance. I believe you have to have a braking
system for the towed vehicle (toad), but that is something I wouldn't be without no
    matter where I travel.

Occasionally, we do rural areas as long as the roads are paved. Generally, the things we
see in the various towns are done by car. It gives us a chance to see more of the area
    we park the RV in.

My wife has a perfect memory of our journeys so we don't log them per se. She plans
each stop along the way, the amount of time we travel every day, reservations at the
campgrounds, etc. All I have to do is drive :)

You should open the forum up to suggestions and try picking a town or two
based on suggestions, within reason of course. I remember a story I heard years ago about someone who started reading the books in the library in
order. Even if they didn't have any interest in the book they took it and
read it anyhow. They said they ended up finding many things they liked that they would have never dreamed of reading otherwise.

When we stayed in Wapakoneta, OH we were there for 5 days because there was so much to see in the area including the Armstrong Space Museum and the National Air
Force Space Museum, an actual Fort and a church with actual relics that date back to the
    times of Christ.

Most trips are just short ones, no longer than 4 hours or so to get us to our destination
in as many days as it takes to keep it as relaxed as possible.

I run an RV Campground Directory which gives me a lot of suggestions. It's at https://www.rv-directory.com but any suggestion is welcomed.
