• What would your hobby be?

Since hobbies have a way to getting pushed to the background when day to day life has too many demands, what would your hobby or your dream hobby if it weren't for the entry costs be? You win the lottery or finally retire, what would it be?

Mine changes every so often. Right about now I would say working with my Raspberry Pi. Like so many others I picked one up with visions of the
projects I would tackle with it, and like so many others it now rests safely
    on a shelf collecting dust.

    How about you?

I'd get some stallionfriends for my mares and proceed to increase my collection of horses wildly.

The problem is you can only do that up to a point, after which you cannot give enough love to each
horse. It is already troublesome when you have more than one, because when you start petting one
the other(s) get jealeous. Even if they don't act on it you can tell they are sad or impatient
because you are not giving them their share.

My second option would be to start a software non-profit and try to draw a profit from it :-)

That's really interesting, I never thought about something like that. I've always liked horses. I've only been horseback riding once and I remember
that it seemed like I was 50 feet up in the air when I got on the back of
    that horse. :)

I almost put down "Learn to code" on mine, but I knew that it would just be a darn lie and that another series of "Teach yourself..." books would end up spending their lives on a shelf, probably right next to the Pi I mentioned.
    ;)

I don't do any horseback riding anymore. The reason I have horses is because I need somebody to love me, and horses are a bit more cost-effective than dogs. You get much more horse to hug for the buck.
Still I have six dogs at home.

Regarding learning to code, I suggest you to start using a "dev intensive" operating system like OpenBSD or NetBSD and try to turn it into your main system. You will find most software you use exists there but some may need porting. IN doing the research for porting it you will learn a good bunch of coding. "Learning to code" does not work unless you have goals to accomplish.

Since I love to travel, I would upgrade my motorhome to a new one and possibly "full-
time" it with my wife. There are still a lot of places we haven't seen.

Currently my RV needs some servicing. Our month long trip was cut short by one week
because the inverter/converter went bad and would not allow power into the coach.

The other thing would be to upgrade my Lowrey organ. I was told today that there is a
software/hardware upgrade available to make it the top of the line model, and it would
cost much less than to purchase the upgraded organ outright. Just too much money
    though.

That covers my 2 top hobbies: camping and organ playing. Coincidentally, these are two
of my wife's top passions as well.

That's going to have to wait for retirement, someday. Right now I'm in the "Just want it to work" stage. Spending days problem solving makes me just
want things to work when I have time to use them. Years ago when I was
younger and had spare time I used to enjoy messing about with settings and figuring out how to get things going, but these days I just don't have the patience for it in my down time.

Maybe one of these days, who knows. I'm better working with a team or at
least in tandem one those type of things.

If you went full time would you stay in one place most of the time as a base
or would you roam most of the time? I've always wondered how the folks who roam all the time handle US Mail and stuff like that.

It sounds like that would come under the category of "lottery winning" that I mentioned earlier. I have a lot of those types of things. If money were no object I would try to open an arcade. I'm sure I would probably be out of business in no time, but it would interesting to give it a try.

We would take our time seeing parts of the country we haven't seen before. Mail
wouldn't be a problem. We get daily emails containing scanned images of the day's
mail. My son can put something aside for us that we feel is important.

Years ago, a good buddy of mine wanted to start an arcade business with me. The
company that owns the machines would donate them to us and take 1/2 the profits.
They would have maintained them as well at no charge. We selected a building, but
never went ahead with it. Within a year or so, someone started their own arcade
business at that same location and did quite well. Our loss :(

Hmm... Not sure - always enjoyed looking at model railroad layouts, so
maybe that... But I've also always wanted to get into hand loads for
    pistol and rifle...

Wife has one that was donated to her classroom... Parent bought it, did
VERY little with it, donated to her tech class, and she used it for
examples for a while, then was changed to a STEM class, so it's just
    basically 'there' right now. :-)
