Ouch! I have the same problem here... about 400 GB of spare drives, and GH>all of them PATA....

I don't know if they're even worth the expense of acquiring external
drive enclosures for them. If I had more than the two IDE channels on
my motherboard, I could install them as additional internal drives.
But, both channels are taken up, one with two hard drives, and the other
with a ZIP drive and the DVD burner.

I am going to give InfraRecorder a try and see if it will replace GH>MicroBurner. I do believe that app is no longer supported, so perhaps

I'm not familiar with MicroBurner. But, I found InfraRecorder through
Portable Apps, and liked it so much I downloaded and installed the "non-portable" version for use on my desktop computer.

InfraRecorder can be it's replacement for me. Thanks for opointing me towards
    it...

I've still got Nero installed on my system, but I only use it when I
have to do something I absolutely can't do with InfraRecorder or
ImgBurn. Mostly to access disc images created with Nero that I haven't converted yet to standard .iso files.

I'll ditch Nero as soon as I get any projects/images created with it
converted over to a more standard format.

With open source/freeware apps like InfraRecorder and ImgBurn, VLC, and
others, you could conceivably set up a decent, usable system with
nothing more than a Windows installation disc and a network connection.

    Carroll....

Main reason I want one (aside from the fact I just want one - <G>) is I've

Ahhhh... now the truth comes out <GG>

been doing some video editing here and there. I'll record a VHS tape,
and then dub it to a DVD with my DVD recorder/VCR combo. Then, import
the DVD into the video editing program. I get a more reliable capture

Now that is a reason for a bigger hard drive. Those video files can be monstrous! <GG>

don't want to have to go through the whole "re-render, re-burn" steps if
I used the video editor to burn another copy of the DVD. Easier to just fire up Infrarecorder or Iso-burn, and point either one at an .iso
    image. Much quicker, too.

If you want a suggestion? Continue to store those .iso images, but do
so on an external HDD. Especially if you have older drives hanging about (after being replaced). I have three 80 gig and a 40 gig IDE drive(s)
left over when I went up to the two 500 GB. SATA drives. I bought myself
an external enclosure (I believe it cost me all of $20) and use those
drives for back ups, in your case, for storage of those .iso files. It
isn't a simple swap to chamge drives in it (two screws and a somewhat tight connector location) but it isn't that difficult, and it frees up my
system drives for other uses, while still keeping files I want but don't use often, quite readily available (just turn on the drive <G>)

Oh, and for burning thos .iso files, have you looked at ImgBurn? IMHO,
as good as it gets for burning image files, and free...

So now I have a terabyte of HDD space... and find it echoes when I ask GH>for a file, it's so empty in there <GG>

Main reason I want one (aside from the fact I just want one - <G>) is I've
been doing some video editing here and there. I'll record a VHS tape,
and then dub it to a DVD with my DVD recorder/VCR combo. Then, import
the DVD into the video editing program. I get a more reliable capture
that way. I can hook the camera (or other tape machine) directly to the computer, but unless I start Windows up "with just the basics" (via
MSCONFIG), it drops frames here and there when I'm trying to do a
direct capture from tape. Importing from the DVD is much more reliable.

In any event, video takes up a lot of hard drive space. Hence one need
    for a larger hard drive.

My other reason for wanting a larger hard drive, is that I store .iso
images of the various CDs and DVDs I've put together, on my hard drive.
It's simpler, and quicker to just burn an .iso image to a disc, than to
go through the "swap the disc copy routine" when I've just got the one
    CDRW/DVD burner.

The reason I store the .iso images of the various DVDs I've put
together, on my hard drive, is because once I finish a DVD project, I
don't want to have to go through the whole "re-render, re-burn" steps if
I used the video editor to burn another copy of the DVD. Easier to just
fire up Infrarecorder or Iso-burn, and point either one at an .iso
    image. Much quicker, too.

Hm.. I do the same thing but have cut out one of the middlemen. I
have a device which connects from my VCR to my iMac, and a software that translates the signal into a video file format. From there, if I want I
can burn to DVD - but I choose instead just to store them and upload the relevant ones up to facebook or whatever.

The last time I paid for CD/DVD burning software was when I upgraded to
