From GREGG HOMMEL@454:3/105 to DOUG POWLESS on Thursday, February 25, 2010 22:22:00
    Doug....

I wonder who I would get if I called that number now? Or maybe I do have your cell number. I'll have to try it and see... <GG>

    I have no idea. :)

Haven't tried it, but did send a text to it. No response back. I
suspect the number I have is way off, as it is a 416 number (prefix of 725) and I somehow doubt that this would be the case in Oshawa now...

(I must admit that my younger daughter says she doesn't want to text
    me
because I am turning in to a "texting whore" <GG>)

I actually had to upgrade my account to accommodate more texting. I'm
so anti-texting it's not funny - yet people seem to still want to
    converse with me that way.

One of the reasons I got a messaging phone... I was tired of paying for
those texts when people refused to do otherwise, not to mention trying
to type a response using that silly phone keypad. Mind you, I suspect
that sometimes, my reply text came out appropriate... you know...
    ftgy$%G^&$ <GG>

The funny thing is: we would spend last time if we just spoke on the phone. But...NOOOOOOOO.

True, but I am beginning to see the reason for texting... it is similar
to using an IM app on a computer (or actually, on a phone, since most
of the newer ones come with built in IM)... a way to "converse" almost as
in a voice call, but without the immediacy of responding to something
the other person said right now...

That's a deal <GG> I wish I could get something like that here. That
H390 sells for around $40 here. But if I try another headset, it may

That's what it lists for here.

suppression one, such as the H790 or Sennheiser FLX70 (but preferrably, GH>the Motorola... I have learned to trust their headsets <G>)

I looked at the more expensive ones, but the H390 for a final price of
$6 or so was more in my price range.

What is the entry in your phone book? That is what determines wqhat it

AT&T's Voice Dial service allows the use of aliases or nicknames. You
enter the full name and number, and a nickname if you use one. So, when
I want to call my mom on her cell phone, I say: "Call Mom, wireless",
and Voice Dial replies back: "Calling Virginia McAllister, wireless
    phone."

    So there! <G>

"Dad" in the phone book, and the headset has no idea who your dad might GH>be (or who you are, for that matter <GG>)

    See the paragraph above. <G>

But not quite as far advanced in geezerhood as the fellow to whom I'm GH>CM> replying with this message. <G>

The formality, and correct grammar of that stement clearly indicates
your advanced stage of geezerhood <GG>

But you, sir, will always "get there before me." <G>

Same-same. The iphone is cool but not that great for texting or
emails, despite its keyboard. I suspect it's ok for girls with slim fingers, but us guys with our sausage fingers just can't get two words out in
    legible format.

I suppose it depends upon who you're talking with. One person I
regularly text with (he initiates it, and hasn't yet figured out there's a reaons I never start these damned text conversations) will, if he doesn't
get a response within a few minutes, send follow up texts wondering
what's wrong. Ugh. Makes me want to hurl the phone across the room.

Actually, I am getting the hang of it, and how to type without getting garbage. It takes practice, and to get that, you have to put up with the frustration of "sausage fingers" until you figure it out...

Not the phone... HIM! So far, I don't have any of that. The few I
currently text with know that sometimes, I will be driving and thus, can't respond. So they wait...
