    I have one of those "shovelware" CD's Exodus is familiar with and there was a directory of MS-DOS demos really ahead of its time... Crystal Dreams was a good one.

    Crystal Dream by Triton? https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=463

    Gonna check that one out as well as the sequel (I guess), Crystal Dream 2!

    Have you seen Unreal and Unreal 2 / Second Reality? :) And not to mention the recent DOS demo for the XT... except that one's name escapes me at the moment. --- SBBSecho 3.15-Linux

    After pulling them up, I definitely remember having these demos back then! And running on them on a 386, probably. Also probably in monochrome, as I had mono VGA for a long time.

    Good call.

    I am... mostly into PC stuff, because thats the hardware I used - but also love seeing the new C=64 scene that many groups still participate in.

    I recently came across the '1HardCode' introz collection [64k and below introz]... its on 2oFB in a file named '1HARDCODE.ZIP' and has 1,000s of introz at the ready....

    I also like viewing OftenHide's releases; its put out by user Hollowone and are collections of historical demos from the day. They just released their third collection and are distributed at aBSINTHE bbS.

    Word, I'm gonna have to check out this compo. Is it primarily of a certain set of groups/crews or does it seem to just have everyone?

    I remember kinda having "favorites" in each platform/scene.

    Speaking of other platforms, I'm amazed at how few Atari demos have come out this year (like 3, maybe?) vs how many C= demos have been released (30+?). Maybe they're saving up for SillyVenture? I just noticed that the C= has been a little more fun in 2023.

    From the creator;
    My name is Pirx and I adore intros. I collect them - my assemblagel includes thousands of small productions (intros, games, cracktros, BBStros etc). You don't have to search for intros, download and unpack them one by one - you can get world-biggest set in one ZIP archive!

    about 9500 productions, 37013 files
    PC platforms only (DOS, Windows, Java, Linux...)
    sorted by size / platform - from 16 bytes to 64 kilobytes
    no rubbish - only original authors' files, many source codes
    free

    I've put a warning @ 2oFB, tho; I found a dozen 'virii' in the collection. No big deal so long as you remove them first - or run in DOSBox, but I have a list;
    Oscar;
    GUSTATIO.EXE

    MtE Encrypted;
    TARTARUS.COM
    REVENGE.COM
    PAL.COM
    SOL.COM
    BOX2.COM
    LED.COM
    BEYOND.COM
    PAR-TV.EXE
    UTS.COM
    HT-SAC4.EXE
    TRS801.EXE
    HY-KRYN.EXE

    Cybertech.501;
    DISK.COM

    So... yea, just kill those if you f around.

    8-bit is continually strong, it's just taking years for top teams to compete for best of all times. Usually some interesting shorties are released here and there. If you're onto Atari, Polish SillyVenture, definitively shows some standards but also in the same country there are C64 and Spectrum parties where groups like Arise and Joker keep surprising with world class quality.

    For C64 I'd recommend X parties in Holland. This is like Revision for that platform alone. Best annual prods are always released there.
