So I have to ask being I got the bug to play with Renegade again what
version should I start out with and another question what front end
do you folks use the most?

There really is no right or wrong version of RG to use. Try to avoid stuff before 98-101D. Only releases by Exodus are official and worth using.

32-bit Windows, from XP to 10.

You can run Renegade on DOS emulators for 64-bit Windows and Linux but you may find that DOS doors and file transfer protocols may not run correctly or run poorly. Renegade was designed for 16-bit MS-DOS so it needs a 32-bit OS.

Better off slapping together an old PC or spin up a virtual-machine on Vmware, Oracle Virtualbox or Qemu running XP dedicated to just running your BBS.
